With the leaves starting to turn and drop, and a slight chill in the air, it can only mean one thing… It’s time to embrace a new season with 5 cosy Autumn self care ideas!

Why do we love AutumnFall for any American friends – so much? It might bring shorter days, colder temperatures, and damper weather, but despite all that, there’s a sense of warmth and nostalgia to the season.

It could be down to the fact that we went back to school every September. I find it reminiscent of the back to school excitement, offering a trip down memory lane every Autumn. Whilst it’s not cold enough to bring out the scarves and thick coats, with temperatures starting to drop and the nights starting to draw in earlier, I don’t think there’s a season more cosy or nostalgic. All-in-all, it’s the perfect opportunity to practice some self care and welcome the new season.

If you’re looking for different ways to welcome Autumn and indulge in some self care, I’ve got just the post for you!

Get creative with Autumnal decor

Welcome Autumn into your home and find joy in decorating your space for the turn of the season. Oranges, reds, browns, dark greens – these are all wonderful colours you can incorporate into your daily decor.

It could be as simple as buying a new duvet cover or decorative cushion to add a touch of autumn into your bedroom. I’m absolutely loving this Next Quilted Autumn Forest Cushion! With neutral tones, it’s easy to incorporate without switching up too much of your current decorations.

Alternatively, you could go all out and embrace Autumn to its full extent. Turn it into its own experience and set aside some time to browse your nearest home store – Homesense and TK Maxx are always lovely options to visit at this time of year. They’re a great source of inspiration, and are often pumpkin decor galore!

Spend time in nature

Put on your warmest jumper, meet up with some friends and spend some time resetting and enjoying nature’s finest.

Autumn isn’t always drizzly after all. My favourite walks are making the most of the fresh air, when there’s a slight chill but the sun is still bright in the sky.

Living in Hampshire, I’m very lucky to have The New Forest right on my doorstep to explore. One of my favourite routes to explore so far has been the Tall Tree Trail (pictured). However, a simple walk in the park can be equally as gorgeous with all the colours and sights of the season.

Enjoy the beauty of Autumn and get outside. It’s one of the best things to clear your mind, focussing on your own self care and your mental health overall.

Bake a sweet treat

If the weather does decide to take a turn, what better way is there to spend a rainy day than baking?

Baking an Autumn treat is a treat like no other. Think of all those delicious spices and flavours: cinnamon, caramel, hazelnut, pumpkin – there are so many to choose from and combine.

But it doesn’t have to be Autumn themed! Just the other day I made a strawberry cream cake, because I was looking for a fun activity to do, and that’s what I fancied.

Baking is a wonderful chance to take some time for yourself and fully immerse within an activity. Plus, you get a delicious treat at the end of it!

Indulge in warm drinks

indulge in warm drinks

Welcome the colder weather with a hand-warming coffee or hot chocolate!

I am amongst the few that enjoy an iced latte all year round, but for the vast majority, a hot drink is a delicious little luxury to welcome Autumn with.

Why not take a few minutes for yourself to curl up with a delicious hot chocolate in your favourite Autumn themed mug?

Or get together with a friend, visit a cosy café, and enjoy a seasonal hot drink. Pumpkin spiced is the usual go-to, but how about adding a dash of hazelnut syrup to your latte for an added touch of Autumn?

Time for a cosy movie marathon

Pick out your favourite candle – nothing says Autumn like a pumpkin spiced candle! Turn off the lights, and let the warm glow from the candle illuminate the room. Don’t forget to get comfortable under a blanket and pick out your favourite Autumnal movie.

If you’re like me, you’ll usually be quite indecisive when it comes to picking a film. Here’s a few movie recommendations to help you on your way:

  • Beetlejuice – in light of the new movie coming out, it only makes sense to start with the original!
  • Harry Potter – there’s something truly magical about these films, and not just in a literal sense…
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox – not only does this film have a beautifully autumnal colour palette, but this adaption makes it fun for all the family.
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas – I know we’re not talking about the ‘C’ word yet, but if you can save it till the end of Autumn, it’s the perfect transition into the festive period.
