It doesn’t matter what your relationship status is, we can all enjoy a Valentine’s self care evening!

You might be single, looking for a way to forget the romance and focus on yourself. You might be getting together with your besties for Galentine’s – a self care evening is a great way to spend it.

Even if you’re in a relationship and are going to be busy with your partner on the actual day, you should always make a conscious effort for ‘me-time’.

This evening of self care is the perfect way to do that, whilst getting into the spirit of love.

So whatever state your love life may be in, this post is here so that you can be your own Valentine. After all, you can’t love someone else until you love yourself. Self love is the most important, and you don’t need a partner for it.

Dedicate some time for you this upcoming day of love, and indulge in some well-needed Valentine’s self care!

Prepare your favourite meal

Every great self care evening begins with great food. So before you start your evening, make sure you’ve got everything ready to prepare your favourite meal.

Whilst cooking can seem like a bit of a chore sometimes, it can also be very therapeutic. Particularly when you go out and find all your ingredients, set some time aside, and have fun preparing your favourite dinner.

Cooking can be quite gratifying too, seeing it go from your basic ingredients, all the way through to a (hopefully) delicious meal. Then you get to reward your body and enjoy eating it at the end – what’s not to love!

Make the process more enjoyable by putting on some music or a new podcast in the background. To add that extra Valentine’s touch, why not decorate the table and wear something nice. That way you can put some effort into feeling good, just for you.

And if worse comes to worst, simply opt for your favourite takeaway instead… It’s your Valentine’s self care evening after all.

Find a fun Valentine’s activity

To differentiate from your usual self care Sunday, or mid-week break, we want to find a fun Valentine’s activity to make it more of a special occasion.

Put on your favourite romcom and have a well-needed cry (if that’s your idea of fun), or your favourite comedy if you want a good laugh and distraction.

Or read a new book. If you’re feeling on theme for Valentine’s then find a good romance or fantasy novel. Or go completely anti-Valentine’s with a new crime thriller – the choice is yours, and that’s the important part.

How about painting your nails with all the staple pinks and reds, hearts and glitter. That way you can look good, and feel good in the process. That’s what this Valentine’s and self love is all about.

The bottom line is do something you love, and don’t feel bad about doing it. But why not add something stereotypically Valentine’s-y in for the fun of it?

Practice gratitude and self love

Remember, Valentine’s Day is about love, and today we’re preaching the importance self love!

If it’s more of a down day for you, try and reframe your mindset by focusing on the positives.

List your positive affirmations, and set a better tone for the day. It will also help you with your own self confidence, remembering your worth, and creating a loving relationship with yourself.

Affirmations aren’t just words either. They’re powerful statements and tools to help you reframe your mindset, to enhance self love.

Alongside affirmations, make sure you reflect and practice gratitude. Journaling is a great tool to do so, by getting all your thoughts out of your head and onto some paper instead.

Taking the time to reflect on what you’re grateful for can help you to shift your focus and outlook on life overall, to learn to see the positivity rather than the negativity.

Journaling, gratitude and self love are important tools for everyone. But if you’re dreading Valentine’s Day in particular, they can serve as a great reminder to focus on yourself and why you matter, rather than focussing on if you have a partner or not.

Pamper your skin and body

Nothing says self care like pampering your skin and body.

And there’s no better opportunity to sit and relax than Valentine’s Day! Face masks, bath bombs, candles. You want the lot for this Valentine’s self care evening.

My favourite routine is to have a long everything shower – hair wash, exfoliate, shave, the entire works. I’ll follow that with a deep moisturiser, and even a body oil if I’m feeling fancy.

Next up is my favourite part, face mask! Light a delicious smelling candle, pick out your chosen face mask, and just chill for the next 15-20 minutes.

It’s pure bliss, and there’s no better chance to do so than a Valentine’s self care evening. It’s such a simple way of showing yourself the love you deserve.

Indulge in a treat or two

Tired of seeing Valentine’s chocolates on the shelves? Indulge in a treat for yourself – who says they need to be a gift for someone else?!

That could be a box of heart shaped chocolates, some red velvet cupcakes, a bag of strawberry sweets, a bottle of luxurious red wine, or a strawberry daiquiri cocktail.

If the shops are going to be in your face about selling it, why wouldn’t you want to go out and treat yourself…

We all love a sweet treat every once in a while, so what better day than Valentine’s to go all out and indulge. Remember, we’re all about self love and doing things for ourselves.
